Emergency Return to South Carolina Last Friday we received word that Beth's Dad, Mr. D.D. Duncan, had been given a very short time to live by his Hospice doctor. On hearing this news we made plans to return to South Carolina as soon as possible. We arrived back on Monday night the 27th and are now with Beth's Dad and family. Her Dad is being very responsive to the family at this time. We trust the Lord and know that He is in control. Please pray for Mr. D.D. We plan to remain in South Carolina for the next several weeks.
| Dam bursts in suburban Jakarta, Indonesia
|
Last Friday morning, March 27, a poorly maintained dam burst its walls unleashing a 10 foot high 'suburban tsunami' that destroyed hundreds of homes and killed 100 people. One week later over 800 volunteers continue to search for bodies. The rebuilding of lives will begin soon for many hundred families. Pray for their recovery efforts.
Kevin & Summer Sneed - Almost ready to go to Kenya They need your help!!
Dear Joe, We are just a few weeks away from departure and we can hardly believe it. God has been so gracious to us and allowed us to raise our support quickly. As of today we have raised 94% of of our goal in faith commitments. We praise God and offer our thanksgiving for his blessing. However, as we prepare to leave, the task of moving to a foreign country is seeming more and more overwhelming with each passing day. The Wootens and the Lists have been helping us organize packing a container and giving us tips on what to bring with us to Kenya. We are beginning the packing process even now. There are many things on our Africa supply list that we do not have. Summer and I have only been married 10 months and haven't had the opportunity to acquire many of these items. Therefore, we are making our list available to you. Perhaps you may choose to help us. If you have contacts, know of special deals, or can point us in the right direction, please share. Maybe you feel led to donate certain items or wish to take on one or more items as a group project. Anyway you can help us fulfill our moving needs would be a tremendous blessing to us. We also want to bless EABTC (East Africa Bible Training Centre) when we arrive in Kenya. I have compiled a "technology wish list" for the school full of helpful items that will better equip us for ministry and training. Summer and I will be working closely with Douglas and Remy Barton at EABTC and want to see the school prosper. We are also accepting your donations of books for our Library there. Specifically we are looking for theology, ministry, and biblical literature. Finally, thank you so much for your gracious support and encouraging prayers for us. God is sending us to Africa through your prayers and support. Your faithfulness to God is a blessing to both us and the IPHC in Kenya and East Africa. May the Lord bless you as you continue to be a blessing. Happy Thanksgiving, Kevin and Summer Sneed |

Fairley Brown is from Cape Town, South Africa, and is a lifelong member of the South Africa IPHC. She is a graduate of the Cape Town Bible School and holds a B.A. in Education from Cape Town College of Education. She is an ordained missionary with the South Africa IPHC. She has been approved by the South Africa IPHC Missions board as a career missionary to Indonesia. World Missions Ministries has also included her in its National Missionary program. Fairley plans to live in Batam, Indonesia, and will be involved in teaching at the Batam Mission School, the flagship training center for the Indonesia IPHC. Fairley spent six months in Batam during 2007 teaching at the mission center as well as ministering in the local IPHC churches in this part of Indonesia. She is currently in South Africa and hopes to return to Indonesia sometime in 2008. Please pray she will be able to raise her missionary budget so she may return to her assignment in Batam. If you would like to support Fairley, please earmark your funds, “Fairley Brown support - #27311,” and send it to WMM.
Our churches are also reaching out beyond their own circle to minister to other victims, demonstraing the love of Christ by distributing food, clothing and other necessities to communities affected by the disaster. People to People Ministries is collecting disaster relief funds to offer assistance to our churches at this critical time. Donations may be sent to PTP Overseas Disaster Relief, earmarked project #15. |

The Myanmar government has offically raised the estimated death toll from last month's cyclone to 84,500. With over 50,000 still missing, that number is sure to rise. Over 2 million survivors are in need of immediate help with food, water, clothing and shelter. Pastor James, national leader of IPHC churches in Myanmar, sends this update: "Cyclone Nargis has calmed, but has left us struggling with many difficulties. But God is good! Among all our churches, the only loss of life was in the Lapuutta congregation, where 7 members were killed. The pastor was in critical condition, but we thank the Lord that he is now recovering. However, his home and the church building were totally destroyed." We have asked our churches throughout Asia to take special offerings and make special prayers to help our suffering brothers and sisters in Myanmar. The first to respond were our churches in Sri Lanka, who have collected nearly $600, a remarkable sum from a handful of churches where the believers struggle daily to make ends meet. Their sacrifical generosity is a challenge to us all. World Missions has channels to get the funds to where they are needed, without risking government interference. Funds may be donated to People to People disaster relief project #15. Click here for information on how to give online.

Kenyan Refugee Recovery Efforts
 Jimmie & Angie Pope
|
"Kenya was once the model of success and stability in East Africa. On December 27, controversial election outcomes destroyed the peaceful country. Rioters destroyed homes, villages, and cities, and they even began to -violate and kill people from other tribes. Some 600 people were killed, and over 250,000 people have been displaced from their homes and communities, which were destroyed by fires and looting. Kenyan IPH churches and facilities are trying to provide for displaced families. These churches and facilities are doing the best they can to provide what little they can for these families. The people of Kenya need you to stand up alongside them. They need your help!"
(Jimmie & Angie Pope are Missionaries to Kenya and PTP Regional Coordinators for Eastern Africa.)
|
As the violence recedes, families are struggling to maintain hope. Thousands of displaced families are living out in the open with no protection from the elements, no supplies to provide an evening meal, no semblance of a home. Refugees are staying at the Bible College in Eldoret, Christian Ministries to the Destitute (orphanage) in Nakuru, and Calvary Worship Center in Nairobi. These IPHC facilities all need our help to care for these displaced families. Our missionaries have requested funds to meet the immediate needs of water, food, tents for shelters, blankets, and medical supplies. Will you help us provide hope to the people of Kenya? Please send your contribution to PTP project #24 Refugee Recovery – Kenya. From Matt Bennett Director of People to People Ministries People to People Ministries 1-888-474-2966 or PO Box 12609 405-787-7110 ext. 3210 Oklahoma City OK 73157 PTPinfo@iphc.org

"This is our opportunity to reach out with the love and compassion of Christ, to provide food, blankets, mattresses, accommodation/tents and medical help. Some of our church members have been affected and have lost everything. Many houses, churches, schools, stores and vehicles have been burned and destroyed." |
