Kids' Camp

Eighty children from Phnom Penh and the village of Champay recently gathered for 3 days and 2 nights of singing, Bible stories, crafts, games, food and camping. Camp organizer Merlen Lamanilao comments: "Every day some of the villagers came to watch, and they wanted us to stay longer. I believe the camp impacted every child who attended. It is my prayer that some will grow to be great leaders of the church in Cambodia."

“O God of our salvation;
You are the hope
Of all the ends of the earth
And of the farthest seas.
By your strength
You established the mountains.”

Asia/Pacific News

Rev. Samuel Lamanilao is the pioneer IPHC missionary in Cambodia. He and his wife Merlen have planted a growing church in the capital city of Phnom Penh. They have also won, discipled and mentored young people who are now planting churches in several other Cambodian villages.

Believing that Christ's mandate to share the gospel includes the practical demonstration of our Lord's love and compassion, Pastor Sammy and Merlen have been involved in active ministry to those who are suffering, including AIDS patients and prisoners.

On a visit to the prison, Pastor Sammy met a lady who had worked for the Ministry of Interior, but had been falsely accused of malfeasance and sent to prison. The lady had a tumor on her arm. Pastor Sammy prayed for her, and the tumor was healed. The truth of her case soon came to light, and she was vindicated and released.

Restored to her old job at the Interior Ministry, she remembered Pastor Sammy. To show her gratitude, she offered to help him through the difficult and expensive process of acquiring Cambodian citizenship. This will offer several benefits: the right to own property, the right to stay in the country without a visa, and the full legal status and privileges of a citizen.

Citizenship will not only help Pastor Sammy, it will establish the ministry on firmer legal ground, and position the work to move forward to greater influence. As a result of his faithfulness, Pastor Sammy is receiving favor in high places!

Dollars and Yen

yenRecently the value of the US dollar against the Japanese yen has taken a drastic plunge, falling to the lowest level in 20 years. In January of last year one dollar would buy us 110 yen. Today it barely buys 90 yen. For us, these financial statistics have very practical consequences. In effect, everything costs us nearly 20% more than it did last year!
