Myanmar Ministry On the same South Asia tour, Dr. Beacham and I stopped in Yangon, Myanmar, for several days of fruitful ministry. We held a seminar for more than 100 church planters gathered from around the country to receive instruction and training to enhance their outreach efforts. We also had the opportunity to teach a special session of 150 Bible School students, who eagerly listened and took notes on our lessons from the Word. It was a joy to visit Acts Children's Home in Yangon as well. Here over 240 children receive loving care and education from Christian teachers. Some of the children are orphans who lost their parents in the super-cyclone of 2008. Many have been abandoned by parents incapacitated by drugs. About 50 of the children are supported through People to People Minstries, but sponsors are needed for many more.

Kids' Camp Eighty children from Phnom Penh and the village of Champay recently gathered for 3 days and 2 nights of singing, Bible stories, crafts, games, food and camping. Camp organizer Merlen Lamanilao comments: "Every day some of the villagers came to watch, and they wanted us to stay longer. I believe the camp impacted every child who attended. It is my prayer that some will grow to be great leaders of the church in Cambodia."

Prayer RequestsPray for the Lord of the harvest to send forth missionaries from across the nations to come to Asia, the most unreached region of the world. Pray for the new church plant in Cambodia, for favor with village officials, for strength and funding for the itinerant pastor, and for more people to come to the Lord. Pray for the nations on the Global Day of Prayer and afterward, and ask the Lord for new ways to bless your local ommunity. Pray for a medical team that is coming to Bangladesh and Nepal in late May and early June, for all aspects of planning, provision and logistics. |
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8). |

Tokyo Missions Consultation It is notable that the Edinburgh conference was dominated by delegates from Western Christendom, while a large majority of delegates at the Tokyo consultation represented nations from Africa, Asia and Latin America. A key goal of the consultation was to provide a platform in which mission leaders could connect and form networks to coordinate their efforts in carrying out the Great Commission. Some 2000 mission leaders from 140 countries gathered in Japan's capital city from May 11-14 for the Tokyo 2010 Global Missions Consultation. The consultation celebrated the centennial of the first global missions conference, held in Edinburgh in 1910. Participants noted how much progress has been made in these 100 years, and how much still needs to be done. |
New Church Pioneered in Cambodia Thanks to the efforts of missionary Samuel Lamanilao, a new IPHC church has been planted in Pursal Province, Cambodia, about 3 hours outside of Phnom Penh. This small village of poor rice farmers had neither a church nor a Buddhist temple. A contact there invited Rev. Lamanilao and his team to come and share the Word of God. They visited the village on April 12, and arrived to find about 60 villagers waiting to hear what they had to say. After hearing the gospel, eight of the women and several young people gave their hearts to the Lord, and a church was established on the spot! The church meets in the home of a believer, a young woman who is being trained to become a pastor. For now, the pastor from a village 2 hours away travels there every Saturday evening to hold worship services. |
Global Day of Prayer On May 23, Pentecost Sunday, Christians and churches around the world will be uniting in a special Global Day of Prayer. The purpose of this event is to call Christians from all nations to unite in repentance and prayer, and to collaborate as God's instruments for the blessing and healing of the nations. Special activities will be held across the United States and in dozens of countries around the world. The Global Day of Prayer will be followed by 90 Days of Blessing, in which local alliances among pastors, congregations, mission agencies and business leaders unite to bring practical, transformational blessing to their communities. | Nepal Ordination
|
On a recent visit to Kathmandu, Nepal, I was privileged to join WMM Executive Director Dr. A. D. Beacham, Jr., in a special ceremony to ordain our national leader for this country. Pastor Mohan Adhikari and his wife Bhavna are visionary leaders who willingly sacrifice their own comforts and advantages out of a deep concern for the needs of their congregation. Nepali believers serve the Lord in a volatile environment of political uncertainty and religious persecution, which sometimes turns violent. Our Kathmandu church is currently facing eviction from their rented facility, as landlords are reluctant to rent to Christians. The believers are praying for funds to purchase a building of their own, where they can worship freely and also establish programs for leadership training and social welfare.
SAFARI in Asia In February, Sandra and I had the opportunity to help train a choice group of students attending Semester Abroad For A Radical Impact (SAFARI) in Krugersdorp, South Africa. Two of the students came to Asia to do 4 weeks of internship working with our missionaries in Bangladesh and our churches and schools in south India. We thank the Lord for this training program, and we pray that some of the graduates will become career missionaries in Asia.
Dollars and Yen
Recently the value of the US dollar against the Japanese yen has taken a drastic plunge, falling to the lowest level in 20 years. In January of last year one dollar would buy us 110 yen. Today it barely buys 90 yen. For us, these financial statistics have very practical consequences. In effect, everything costs us nearly 20% more than it did last year!

We proudly announce the birth of grandchild number 13, Olivia Misaki, born to Eryn and Hiro on September 13! We thank the Lord for this wonderful gift!
